Have you ever updated the WordPress platform, a theme, or a plugin, and found that something broke (even the entire site)?
Content-managed websites require regular attention and software updates to make sure they are running quickly and reliably, as well as to help keep them secure, and because WordPress is an open-source platform, there can sometimes be compatibility issues when updating to the latest version.
Before you think this is just a sales pitch, we don’t tend to sell standalone maintenance packages unless we have actually built the site ourselves. Why? Because not all sites are built the same or with the level of execution and care that we give our clients. However, if you do have a site that you REALLY need ongoing help with then please drop us a line. We’ll need to take a look before we assess what type of plan you might need.
So what are the risks of self-managing your website?
When you have access to your website, we totally get that you’ll want to have a play around, make some updates to your content and pages, and even amendments to your site structure. It’s like a new shiny toy, and one you need to be able to control and manage as your business grows.
The only problem is that you might make a mistake and accidentally delete something that you shouldn’t or change the layout when you didn’t mean to. It happens to all of us sooner or later, even those of us who work on sites daily.
If you have a maintenance package, then your developers will be able to reinstall the last backup of your website.
Even if you aren’t making changes to your website it’s still going to need constant software updates for your theme, plugins and the WordPress platform itself.
These software releases are happening all of the time and you NEED to stay on top of these to keep your site running smoothly. Trying to manage all these updates yourself can be time-consuming especially if you don’t know what you’re doing. We are updating client sites multiple times a week with software updates in order to prevent any potential issues.
It’s also not uncommon that something goes wrong. Plugins can stop working or cause conflicts with others when they need updating. This might mean your website stops working properly, so getting the timing and testing right is super important.
The security of your website is EXTREMELY important and needs to be taken seriously. Websites get hacked all the time, and sometimes it happens without you even knowing, putting your data and that of your customers at risk. Maintenance plans offer an extra layer of security with constant monitoring and scanning for malware.
Please note, that having a maintenance plan doesn’t guarantee you won’t get hacked or lose some of your work. Every website is still susceptible even to the best security. But it will significantly reduce the chances of it happening and limit the damage if it does
A saved copy of your website from a previous time e.g. a day ago or a week ago can be a lifesaver if you get hacked or accidentally break your site and can’t get it back.
When you have a maintenance plan, a daily backup of your website is stored so it can be recovered if anything goes wrong. Trust us, we’ve had to do this many times over the years and it really is a lifesaver.
If you are on a maintenance plan then you’re in safe hands. Managing a website can be very time-consuming, especially if something goes wrong. It’s nice to know someone is taking care of your website behind the scenes and can fix any issues and keep your site running with ease.
